When the Calling Costs You Something
What happens when God asks you to step away from something secure before you know what’s next?
I remember that moment vividly. I was walking away from the familiar, from Hollywood, from success, from what felt like safety, into a season where nothing was certain except the whisper in my spirit: “Trust Me.”
That whisper changed everything.
Isaiah 58:11 says, “The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.” God’s guidance doesn’t always come with a roadmap. Sometimes, it comes as a quiet nudge to step out before you see where your foot will land.
Abraham understood that kind of faith. He didn’t see the ram until he raised the knife. Provision followed obedience. God didn’t show him the miracle until after he took the step of surrender.
Where God guides, He provides, but sometimes the provision is waiting on the other side of our yes.
The Tension Between Calling and Comfort
Obedience sounds beautiful until it costs you something.
There was a season in my life, single parenting, raising my two children, at times struggling to make ends meet, when God was calling me to ministry while my bank account begged me to stay practical. I knew what He was asking, but I also knew what the bills looked like.
Maybe you’ve been there too: caught between your calling and your comfort.
Philippians 4:19 reminds us,
“My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory.”
Yet that truth gets tested in the waiting. God’s provision doesn’t always come in abundance, it often comes in portions, like manna in the wilderness. Just enough for today. Just enough to remind us to keep trusting Him tomorrow.
Peter found the same truth on the water. Safety wasn’t in the boat, it was in obedience. He only saw the miracle when he stepped out.
God’s provision often waits on the other side of our obedience.
Surrender Isn’t Giving Up, It’s Trusting Completely
There’s a point where faith becomes less about believing for something and more about trusting through something.
My own surrender came in the form of a simple, desperate prayer: “God, I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m done trying to fix it. I’m trusting You to make a way.”
That night, I released control. By morning, an unexpected email landed in my inbox, a divine provision that confirmed God was already working behind the scenes. What I thought would take months, perhaps never, happened overnight.
Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.”
Surrender opens the door for God to move. It’s not weakness; it’s worship.
Moses didn’t see the Red Sea part until he lifted his staff. Mary didn’t see the miracle until she said, “Let it be to me according to Your word.”
Every breakthrough in scripture begins with surrender.
The Miracle of Provision
Looking back, I see now that God’s fingerprints were on every detail, years before I even prayed that prayer. He was aligning people, timing, and opportunities I couldn’t have orchestrated on my best day.
Ephesians 3:20 tells us that God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” That’s not poetic exaggeration. It’s truth in motion.
The same God who provided manna in the desert, multiplied loaves for the hungry, and sent Joseph ahead to preserve life is still working miracles of provision today.
Where God guides, He provides, and His timing is perfect.
Say Yes Anyway
Maybe today you’re standing in that in-between place, one foot in obedience, one foot in uncertainty. You want to trust, but fear whispers louder.
Here’s the encouragement I want to leave with you: You don’t have to see the map. You just need to trust the Guide.
Ask yourself:
- Where might God be calling me to step out in faith?
- What am I still holding onto that He’s asking me to release?
Deuteronomy 31:8 promises, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you.”
Wherever He’s leading, you won’t walk alone.
So take the step. Say yes anyway. Provision is already waiting for you there.
Faith Declaration
Lord, I may not know the way, but I know the One who does.
I choose to trust You, follow Your lead, and believe that
where You guide, You will provide.
